13-14 May. Two-day festival of healthy and sustainable mobility.
The fifth edition of Cyclopride Day will see central Milan invaded by bike enthusiasts on 13 and 14 May.
The two-day festival starts at 11.00 on 13 May with the opening of Cyclopride village in Piazza del Cannone in the Sempione park, where bikers can sign up free for the group rides over the weekend.
The first ride at 11.30 will be a 90-minute exploration of the park itself (sign up free at email@example.com). At 15.30 a treasure hunt will be a guided tour of the botanic species growing in the park (sign up free at firstname.lastname@example.org), while at 16.30 there will be a kids’ group ride to explore the Sforza castle and its surroundings, with a fantasy theme.
The village will also offer a free bike check-up, a demonstration of folding bikes to take on public transport and the best electric bikes on the market, and a free trial run with off-road bikes on difficult terrain. There will be street food, a bike and accessories market and a themed book-stall, as well as music all day long from RDS.
At 17.00 councillor Marco Granelli will illustrate city hall’s intentions and vision for encouraging and supporting cyclists in Milan.
The main event follows on 14 May with the parade winding through the city centre, starting at 10.00 from Piazza del Cannone and finishing there at 12.00. For those who don’t want to join the parade, there will be free workshops at the village.
The afternoon will see a parade of the most imaginative cargo bikes, with prizes for the most attractive, the most original and the bikes with the biggest load.
And for enthusiasts who currently don’t have a bike, Milan’s BikeMI hire system is offering a two-day cost-free rental, details on the Cyclopride website. The regular hire contract for €4.50 must be signed, but the fee will not be charged. For riders who are already BikeMI members, the two days of Cyclopride will not be billed.
