9-16 July. The history of the construction of Milan’s cathedral will be projected onto the building's façade in a display of videomapping, to the accompaniment of arias composed by the city’s favourite son, Giuseppe Verdi.
Seven centuries of the magnificent building's history will be projected onto the façade in a programmme titled Pietra e Preghiera, starting at 21.30.
The soundtrack will be provided by the orchestra and choir of the Veneranda Fabbrica, the organisation that has been in charge of building and maintaining the cathedral since 1397.
This is the first in a series of events organised by the Veneranda Fabbrica which includes Light and Colour (Luci e Colori) about the cathedral's stained glass windows (11 July), a concert in the La Verdi chamber music series (12 July), three evenings of music by Giuseppe Verdi together with readings from the works of Dante Alighieri, Mark Twain, Ermes Ronchi and Emilio de Marche on the roof of the cathedral (13,14,16 July).
The cathedral recently inaugurated its new lighing system to coincide with the opening of Expo Milan 2015 at the beginning of May.
Entry to the cathedral square on 9-10 July is free but visitors requiring seating should contact the Duomo info point tel. 0272023375.
