Milan hosts week-long flamenco festival

23-29 June. Shows, workshops and master-classes.

The 11th edition of Milano Flamenco Festival returns on Saturday 23 June, based at the Piccolo Teatro Strehler in Largo Greppi, but with workshops and flash performances in other locations around the city, under the slogan ¡Que viva España!

Among the performers are famous dancers of the calibre of Jesús Carmona, Rafaela Carrasco Rivero and Marco Flores, each presenting their latest creations combining the traditional music and dance steps with contemporary interpretation.

The festival celebrates the traditional art form of the southern Spanish region of Andalusia, including singing, dancing, guitar music and hand-clapping, declared by UNESCO one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Organised by PuntoFlamenco, a cultural association supported by Milan city hall and the Spanish embassy to Italy, the festival brings leading companies and soloists to demonstrate the fiery and dramatic art.

Details of performances and prices are available on the Piccolo Teatro website, and information about the other events during the week on the PuntoFlamenco website.
