Milan invaded by clowns

1-4 March. 152 events across the city.

A regular appointment to coincide with the Ambrosian carnival, the 12th edition of the Milan Clown Festival brings 80 artists from 10 nations to the city for the rest of this week.

From Wednesday to Saturday, the city – and in particular the Isola neighbourhood – will be invaded by artists from around the world, competing for the jury prize, the audience prize and the kids’ jury prize.

The PIC Circus is in a new location, but not far from where milanesi have been used to visiting it: this year it is moving to the Mendel Gardens on Via Restelli, just across from the regional government and close to the other main events.

As a preview to the festival, Wednesday 1 March has been declared Right to Laughter Day, with a street parade in Via Padova and a mobile circus visiting the wards of the Buzzi Children’s Hospital. The official opening to this year’s festival will be at 12.00 on Thursday in Piazza del Duomo.

The programme – in full detail on the festival website – concludes with the awards ceremony in Teatro Sala Fontana at 21.00 on Saturday.
