Milan Symphonic: “The Godfather” with live soundtrack

21, 22, 24 July: Screening with live orchestra.

The symphonic orchestra of Milan’s prestigious La Verdi Foundation, under the baton of John Jesensky, will perform live Nino Rota’s popular theme music to accompany a screening of Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic movie The Godfather.

The concerts are part of a programme of summer music produced by the foundation’s musical director, Zhang Xian.

The 1972 movie was for some time the highest-earning ever, and won three Oscars and another seven nominations. It was followed by two sequels, and is ranked the second greatest film in American cinema (after Citizen Kane) by the American Film Institute. Rota’s theme music is familiar to listeners all over the world, with its dark, looming texture expressing the film’s core aspects of tradition, love and fear.

The concerts will begin on Thursday at 20.30, on Friday at 20.00 and on Sunday at 18.00.
