8 Feb. Chinatown in Milan celebrates new year.
The Chinese community in Milan will say goodbye to the year of the goat and usher in the fortunate year of the monkey on Monday 8 February.
The celebrations will see a street party in the heart of the Chinatown centred around Via Paolo Sarpi, between Sempione Park and the monumental cemetery, with a procession by the lucky dragon, as well as dancing schools and martial arts demonstrations, and followed by firework displays.
Known also as the Spring Festival, the new year party sees people mostly dressed in red, the colour that frightens off evil spirits. The oval paper lanterns alone the street will also be in red, as will the airborne lanterns carrying new year wishes into the sky.
Restaurants will be serving new year specialties, and if you want to celebrate there booking will be advisable.
