At sunset among the gargoyles
Milan’s cathedral authorities have decided to offer evenings of carefully selected movies to be enjoyed among the gargoyles and spires of the city’s iconic Duomo.
On Friday 18 July, Guido Chiesa’s 2010 film Io sono con te will begin at 21.00: the story of Mary’s difficult relationship with her husband Joseph, her son Jesus and the patriarchal society in which they lived under the Roman colonial yoke and Herod’s vexations. The programme continues on Monday 21 July with Franco Zeffirelli’s award-winning Fratello Sole, sorella luna, the story of Francis of Assisi, and on Wednesday 23 July with Gennaro Nunziante’s 2011 film Che bella giornata, much of it set on the very terrace where the projection takes place.
Entry to the films is reserved for supporters of the Duomo’s restoration work: a minimum donation of €30 pays for entrance to a single screening. The entire takings from the film evenings will be dedicated to the “Adopt a gargoyle” programme to save these works of art.
