100 tickets for every production.
Milan’s opera house Teatro alla Scala will offer tickets to 18-25 year olds at the symbolic price of €2, starting with the next season.
In addition to the tickets on sale at traditional rates, 100 at the super-discounted rate will be set aside for every production.
Announcing the initiative, culture minister Alberto Bonisoli said it was aimed at the new generations “who often consider culture with scepticism” or who think that opera is old-fashioned.
And Bonisoli added that when the plan was suggested to Italy’s other 14 opera foundations, they all agreed to follow suit.
