7 Mar-18 Apr. For the first time in Italy HangarBicocca hosts a famous exhibitory project, entitled Primitive, by the Thai artist and director Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
This installation, created thanks to the support of Pirelli, is a combination of cinema and sound, interviews, documentaries and video clips. The protagonists are a group of young inhabitants of Nabua, a small village in the north of Thailand, besieged from the 1960s to the 1980s by the Thai army, taped in their daily life and while working at the construction of a spaceship, which becomes a symbolical instrument for the imagination of a different future.
In his works Weerasethakul mixes some biographical elements with historical reflexion, spirituality, dreamlike, mysterious atmospheres and social critic. In fact, Primitive offers a deep reflection on cinema and on its evolution. Weerasethakul’s movies and installations have captured the attention of the international critics and media. He has been awarded with the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010 and is considered one of the most influent artists of the past decennium.
