5 October 2010-6 January 2011. On the 400th anniversary of the canonization of St Carlo Borromeo, this exhibition, entitled Sacred Lombard: from Borromeo to Symbolism, retraces the development of sacred art in Lombardy. The exhibition starts with works from the 17th century and ends with masterpieces from 1922 when Achille Ratti di Desio became the first Lombard pope of the 20th century. It pays homage to three centuries of Lombard history and its great personalities such as the Cardinals Carlo and Federico Borromeo, continuing with the developments of Baroque and then illustrating the passage from the Spanish to the Austrian domination.
