25 June-22 Nov 2009. Throughout the summer Milan celebrates the artistic movement that originated in the city in the second half of the 19th century. The movement, which took its name from the novel by Cletto Arrighi, included poets, musicians, painters and sculptors, and contributed to the social and ideological changes in the city during the decades following the Risorgimento. It was strongly influenced by German romanticism, the poetry of Baudelaire, the writings of Edgar Allen Poe and the music of Wagner, and is considered the forerunner of both Divisionism and Futurism. The exhibition at the Palazzo Reale includes 250 works by 38 artists from public and private collections in Italy and abroad.
