26 Sept-23 Oct.
Alexei Ratmansky's version of Sleeping Beauty with La Scala's orchestra and the academy's students. Ratmansky, now artist in residence at the American Ballet Theatre after four years as director of the Bolshoi Ballet, choreographed this new version of Petipa's original specially for the American Ballet Theatre. Ratmansky has based it on archival material and original notations now housed in the Harvard Theatre Collection. This makes for a production that is more faithful to the original, with more flexibility, more story-telling, more mime, more gesture and more feeling. Teatro alla Scala, www.teatroallascala.org.
