The Tarots of Sola Busca

14 Nov 2012-17 Feb 2013. Brera’s Pinacoteca dedicates this new exhibition to an unusual art object: the ancient Italian tarot deck of cards, better known as Sola Busca from the name of its owners, created in Venice in 1491 and acquired by the Italian Ministry of Heritage and Culture in 2009.

This fascinating exhibition deepens the complex iconography of these precious playing cards, which consist of colourful, golden paper prints with refined engravings, created by the craftman Nicola di maestro Antonio, guided in the choice of the images by the humanist Ludovico Lazzarelli of S. Severino Marche. This tarot deck teaches visitors more about the cultural context of the Italian courts of the 15th century.
