Tiziano and Modern Landscape

16 February-20 May 2012. Palazzo Reale pays tribute to nature in the paintings of Titian (1480/1485-1576). On show are a series of breathtaking masterpieces by the Venetian artist, such as The Holy Conversation, displayed along with some works by Titians’s contemporaries such as Bellini, Giorgione, Veronese, Bassano, Tintoretto and Lotto.

Titian was one of the first artists to propose a new vision of the natural environment, which led to a modern definition of landscape. In his canvases the landscape was not any longer a simple background, but it became the central part of the composition. He was one of the few Italian artists to become a shrewd businessman of his own production. He came into close contact with powerful personalities of his time, who became some of his biggest clients.

Mon 14.30-19.30, Tue, Wed, Fri, Sun 09.30-19.30, Thurs, Sat 09.30-22.30.
